Since its inception in 2010, Peter Roskam has been an ardent supporter of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), a program that protects the world’s largest source of freshwater. The GLRI also has the important task of protecting animals in the region, defending against invasive species, and preventing the growth of toxic algae blooms.
Early in his term, President Trump proposed decimating the funding for this vital initiative, a move that would’ve endangered the environment of the Great Lakes region.
Peter wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. He got to work and stood up for the more than 48 million people who rely on the Great Lakes for drinking water.
After weeks of advocacy and meetings with senior administration officials, Peter successfully restored full funding for the GLRI. Illinoisans no longer had to worry that their drinking water or the environment they cherish were at risk.
Regardless of party or affiliation, Peter has demonstrated he will always stand up for the health of the environment and the well-being of the residents of the Sixth District.
